The Frog and Ancient Plants

Sunday July 6 was a nice day and perfect for working in the garden. The garden, about the size of a darn football field, is a good, long walk through the woods. There's always something to see.

After an hour or so of planting the last of the sunflowers and pumpkins, hoeing and pulling darn weeds, it was time for a break in the shade.

Sitting on a five gallon bucket in the shade and drinking a cold beer, I noticed the yarrow blooming a brilliant white on the other side of the garden. That's when I looked down and saw the tree frog. (meditation is claimed to be healthy) the nosebleed plant and it's a good choice for a garden. Well, and so are frogs and toads. I have hardly seen a nasty slug or snail this summer despite the recent rains.

The yarrow borders the other side of the garden and there have been no wildlife problems on that side, well, very few. It seems the deer, rabbits and woodchucks leave it alone. The yarrow has been there a long time, as long as I can remember. This falls project will be to dig some up and surround the entire garden plot and make a separate wildlife food plot a distance away.

Yarrow, an ancient plant, is also called the nosebleed plant.

The garden day was a day about history I guess. Sunflowers have been around also for thousands of years and have quite a history.
